My Tarot Story

Hey! I am Casey.

I’m a Tarot reader and writer. I’m a queer Druid. I live for social progress.

I had been raised in a highly strict Christian church where any and all things pagan were condemned. Yet, ever since I was a child, I had an affinity for the pagan path.

As a young adult I decided to lean into what I resonated with. I was 24 years old when I bought my first Tarot deck. It was the Llewellyn Gilded Deck. I loved the sleek, elegant imagery, and still do! I did my first reading for a friend, and had no serious intentions of becoming a professional reader at the time.

About a month after that reading, I moved across the country to start a new life. Since that move, I’ve spent the past 11 years exploring spirituality and getting to know new types of people. I decided in early 2019 to revisit Tarot reading as a writer. So I created a handwritten letter as a Tarot reading for another friend, which opened up a Pandora’s box of ideas about using Tarot in new ways. So now I use the Tarot to not only do readings for myself and others, but also to create prose and poetry.

I didn’t know what type of pagan I was. I just knew I loved nature, and felt an unmistakable connection to Native American spirituality. Then I came across Penny Billington’s book The Path of Druidry: Walking the Ancient Green Way. That’s when I knew what sort of spiritual person I was. I’m a Druid because I love natural simplicity. I love being close to the earth.

I live and write for social progress because we live in times that require attention to ideas that would undermine the strides that have already been made toward racial equality. I use Tarot readings to deconstruct those ideas, and show them for the cloak they are.

Tarot applies to personal and public life. I use Tarot to help me understand not only myself better, but also the world around me.
